Nature and the Columbia River

North on the Columbia River
Out where the land grows free,
Nature shares its beauty.

In spring the wildflowers flourish
among grasses and sagebrush alike,
North on the Columbia River.

Arrowleaf balsmroot blooms yellow
a sunflower delight since forever
Out where the land grows free.

Phlox, lupin, and prairie star
please families enjoying the sun,
Nature shares its beauty.

Washington Flats

Just outside of town, on the northwest side of the Columbia River is an area of land called Washington Flats. It’s a place we are allowed to hike and enjoy, an area of sagebrush, rabbitbrush, antelope bitterbrush, and wildflowers. And today, Guthrie, the dog, and I immersed ourselves in nature’s beauty. We took a few photos; view below or on Flickr, and it inspired the poem written in “cascade” form.
