Winter Fields

Winter sun

orange in the evening sky

hanging on to cloudy streams

shining on crystals of snow

where shadows hide in dips of loess,

sediment blown by wind

over glaciers of ancient times,

now fields of wheat,

dormant under the sparkling snow.
