Lakeside Reflections

Winter elm trees tall on the shore

with strong trunks on alert,

barren of leaves, just grey branching

towards the overcast sky

slate blue water ripples in the breeze

the strong trunks inverted, on guard,

branches blurred foretelling of summer—

an image of its future: shade to satisfy.
