Perception
Perception
“I saw it,” he cried. “The monster.
It reached upwards towards the towers,
searching for more power. I saw it there. Go. Look.”
I stepped carefully. “There?”
He nodded and pointed and ran away to the next person.
I looked. I looked around and all over,
looking up towards the tower
through the limbs
of the often-pruned apple tree,
its arms reaching up, bare,
in the winter light.
