Giant

A Daily Challenge to myself: a photograph and poetry. Today's image is the bark of the tree [seen at right in the image above]. Our sycamore is so huge that no one can wrap arms around its trunk; it is one of the tallest trees in our town and its shade cools us in the hot summer and the canopy fills with little critters from squirrels to wrens, robins, chickadees, and woodpeckers and the occasional raccoon. The canopy covers the entire back yard and is a lovely ceiling filtering the sky and sun, wrapping its arms of care around all of us.

Giant
Not one man wraps arms
around me; I stand above,
giant over his
simple homes built of brothers
of the forests, now a dream.

So how could I not write about this friendly giant? The image on the left side of the picture is the same tree in summer, reaching up to heaven.
