Light

A Daily Challenge to myself: a photograph and poetry. Yesterday, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris brought civility, dignity, and compassion back to the White House and the country. Although I share my poem and photograph, it is Amanda Gorman who should be heard again today. Amanda is the first Youth Poet Laureate of the United States. Her poetry resonates with those of us so distraught about not only the last four years, but also January 6th. We are renewed and on a mission for justice for all, being the light when shadows come. Poetry is art with words, chosen carefully as Amanda has written with care and consideration for history and for today and tomorrow [NPRCNN]. For lesson plans, see the New York Times Lesson of the Day and PBS Lesson.

Her reading/recitation of “The Hill We Climb"

Now I can only ramble a small haiku:

Light

In each day the light

shines somewhere; when shadows come,

be light together.
