Killdeer Camo
On Saturday, June 18th, while walking the dog in the boat launch parking lot, these killdeer scampered and scurried, the mom faking a broken wing to protect her young. I quickly snapped my pics and tip-toed away, although the parking lot is certainly not the safest place they could have chosen.
The killdeer build their nests in rocky areas, which the parking lot is. The eggs are barely visible, looking like rocks themselves.
My favorite site for bird information is at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology; click here to learn from them about Killdeer.
