The Heartland
Above all, lo, the sky so calm, so transparent after the rain,
and with wondrous clouds,
Below too, all calm, all vital and beautiful, and the farm
prospers well.
Come Up From the Fields Father by Walt Whitman

The Evergreen Implement held an open house in the town next to ours, so we journeyed there for the festivities. We parked, kept the windows open for the dog, and ambled down the block towards the street fair. When we turned the corner, the image was a breath-taking Norman Rockwell, Carl Sandburg, Robert Frost, and Walt Whitman American scene: families, balloons, smiles, music, food. This is what makes America great.
