Grateful

Grateful for the moment

Clear air and cool breeze on a tolerable day

Able to sit on the rocker swing in the back yard

Beneath the sycamore canopy I love

Listening to the cooing of mourning doves and

Chuckle of quail, the chatter of a neighbor,

Laughter of children, a gruff from the neighbor’s dog

I’m outside again

Grateful for a life

I think I’ve added some goodness to— with the loving

Support of family and friends

Especially

To Scott whose love and understanding,

Thoughtful and sensitive outlook on the world

Has sustained our family and our community 

Through all the contributions of thought and time and work

He graciously gives.
