LILAC

Four pale purple petals 

at first curled inward

in a deep fuchsia bud

slowly unfurling

into fragrant quarters,

tipped at each long edge with

a dart that pulls inward 

forming a shallow fairy bowl;

yellow stigma hides within

waiting for a butterfly

~ a fairy ~

to dip in;

 two weeks only in early summer

I pause, refreshed, renewed by

four pale purple petals.
