Grandfather Rock

Thank Grandfather
to all for the gift
of ground
on which
we walk and build;
Forged from the
ancients
of fire and water;
Pressed in layers
of history
Cooled, sometimes
morphed into
sparkling crystals
capturing our gaze
to remind us of
the bounties of its
broken pieces
finely ground by
time into the soil
from which we
gather our feasts
and forests; and
deep within its
basic elements we
carve away to
capture the energy
that fuels our
gadgets:
Grandfather,
Thanks.
