Surprise
Strolling through the park I love
And have enjoyed so often
The lovely green of trees and shrubs
Cooling the rays of the searing sun,
I heard a meadowlark sing its tune
And looked up for its yellow hue
Instead I found an unnoticed view
A surprise of pleasant beauty:
The bountiful blooms of a lilac tree.
